Scripture Union Daily Guide 25th March 2026 – Outline

When do you find yourself shouting ‘Hallelujah’ or saying ‘Praise the Lord’? What usually prompts your praises?
Psalms 113 is part of the Hallelujah Psalms (Psalms 111-118), with Psalms 113-118 known as the Egyptian Hallel – traditionally sung by the Israelites during the Passover. Psalms 113 and Psalms 114 were sung before the Passover meal, while Psalms 115-118 followed it.

Observe that this Psalm opens and closes with the call to “Praise the Lord” (Psalms 113:1,9), emphasizing that God is always worthy of our worship. His praise is not limited to a specific time or situation; it is continuous, from sunrise to sunset, at all times and in every situation, we find ourselves in (Psalms 113:2-3; cf. 1 Thessalonians 5:18).

Read Psalms 113:4-6 again and take note of the question, “Who is like the LORD our God?” (Psalms 113:5). How would you personally respond to that question today?

This Psalm highlights different aspects of God’s character: His name, greatness, glory and goodness. It emphasizes that our God is absolutely unique, sovereign and gracious. No one can be compared with him.
What promises and encouragement are there for us in Psalms 113:7-9?

Food for Thought
“From the rising of the Sun unto the going down of same, the Lord’s name is to be praised” (Psalms 113:3).
